Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
